Tecno has just unveiled its new solutions of Continuous Zoom and Compact Camera
At its fifth Future Lens conference dealing with image processing, two great technological innovations that are presented: Freeform Continuum Telephoto and Dual-mirror Reflect Telephoto. These new inventions are designed to address common limitations of camera phones, primarily addressing zoom smoothness and inconsistency of color accuracy.
Freeform Continuum Telephoto Seamless 1x-9x Zoom
The Freeform Continuum Telephoto technology implements a periscope-style system that can deliver smooth optical zoom from 1x to 9x without the "jumps" usually experienced when switching between the digital and optical range.
Continuous Range The system eliminates the gap between focal lengths, translating into smooth transitions.
Unified Color Reproduction Functioning as the primary sensor, this technology preserves the same color science throughout the entire zoom range, eliminating the color shifts caused when a phone switches between different camera modules.
Development Status The technology is currently at the development stage since the module structure is too complicated to be hurricane-ready at this time.
Dual-Mirror Reflect Telephoto Compact Design
TECNO also detailed the Dual-Mirror Reflect Telephoto technology, focusing on the downsizing of telephoto hardware.
Size Reduction This design reduces the camera module size to 50% smaller than any conventional telephoto solution.
Optical Structure A combination of mirrors and lenses is used to focus the light.
Image Characteristics The system creates a particular bokeh but that comes with a compromise whereby approximately one exposure step of light is lost.
Commercial Availability
Testing aside, if expected to be passed within this year, then TECNO plans to integrate the Dual-Mirror Reflect Telephoto cameras into next year's smartphones. Freeform Continuum Telephoto modules are still being developed, primarily due to the complex manufacturing of the technology.
