Ubisoft is Buying MOBA 'March of Giants', Which is Yet to be Released.

Ubisoft has gained rights to the free-to-play MOBA, March of Giants, as a part of the transaction. As such, the development team, Amazon Games Montreal, will shift to Ubisoft to allow continued work toward the release of the game. It was first announced during summer.

Details of Acquisition

Since the game is still under production, all of Amazon Games Montreal studio will be integrated into Ubisoft. While Ubisoft assumes a controlling role in the development and ownership, marketing efforts for the game will still be assisted by Amazon, especially through promotion on the Twitch platform.

Developers Return to Ubisoft

The development of March of Giants is led by several former Ubisoft veterans. This includes Xavier Marquis, the former development director for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and Alexandre Parisot, a producer on Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction. Both leaders have expressed that the change in ownership will be beneficial for the project.

Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO:

"March of Giants has a real opportunity to offer gamers something new and dynamic and help Ubisoft compete in one of the largest sectors of the gaming industry. We look forward to the return of Alexandre, Xavier, and many experienced members of the development team who previously worked at Ubisoft."

The state of the project and plans going forward

The Amazon Games Montreal team is now engaged in a major update for the MOBA. Closed beta testing was conducted in September, and the next phase of testing is scheduled for somehow in 2026.

A background for this sale

The sale occurs as Amazon is exercising significant cost-cutting measures within its gaming division. The company became subject to large-scale layoffs in the fall, whereby its planned MMO based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy was canceled.
