Xiaomi Launches Surprise HyperOS Update for Old Mi 11 Smartphone

Xiaomi has rolled out an unexpected HyperOS firmware upgrade for its flagship Mi 11 smartphone. The noteworthy portion of the release is that this unit was launched nearly two years back in December 2020, and official software support for this device has already ended over a year back.

Update Details and Purpose

The new firmware carries the version number OS2.0.6.0.UKBCNXM and runs under Android 14. As per the official changelog, it is primarily meant for improving system stability and fixing some errors that come with some usage.

Users who have installed this update do not report any new features or visual changes. The very specific nature of the release seems to indicate that it is a patch for a high-priority security vulnerability.

Current Availability

At present, the update is being rolled out exclusively for the Chinese variant of the Xiaomi Mi 11. For consumers owning one of these devices in China, its availability can be checked through usual means in their system settings.

No news on whether this firmware will be available for the global versions of Mi 11, though.
