AMD Unveils Ryzen AI MAX+ CPUs with Top-Tier Integrated Graphics
AMD has unveiled two new processors, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 and the Ryzen AI MAX+ 388, to extend the high-performance Strix Halo series. The two new CPUs will enable the highly integrated Radeon 8060S GPU into more mainstream and cost-effective products.
New CPUs with Top-Tier Integrated Graphics
Prior to those, Radeon 8060S with 40 Compute Units was limited to the high-end Ryzen AI MAX+ 395. These new models break that exclusivity by offering the same powerful iGPU in lower core count configurations.
- Ryzen AI MAX+ 392:
- Cores/Threads: 12 Zen 5 Cores / 24 Threads
- Max Clock Speed: Up to 5.0 GHz
- Graphics: Radeon 8060S (40 CUs)
- NPU: 50 TOPS
- Ryzen AI MAX+ 388:
- Cores/Threads: 8 Zen 5 Cores / 16 Threads
- Max Clock Speed: Up to 5.0 GHz
- Graphics: Radeon 8060S (40 CUs)
- NPU: 50 TOPS
This strategy allows manufacturers to build gaming handhelds and Mini PCs with AMD's best-in-class integrated graphics without paying for the high-end CPU.
Platform Features and Performance
The entire Ryzen AI MAX+ platform builds off Zen 5 architecture and comes with the XDNA 2 AI engine. The other new features include support for faster LPDDR5X-8533 RAM, to the benefit of gaming performance. The platform also supports up to 128 GB of unified memory.
Performance Comparisons
AMD provided some performance metrics for the Ryzen AI MAX+ lineup against competitors:
- The MAX+ 395 is 70% faster on average than the NVIDIA DGX Spark for a variety of Large Language Model (LLM) workloads and 80% faster on average than the Apple M5 in content creation tasks.
- The MAX+ 392 gives a maximum application performance uplift of 90% in Blender and VRay over the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H.
- The MAX+ 388 achieves 2.5x performance gain in Cyberpunk 2077 compared to the Intel Core Ultra 7 255H.
Market Impact
The Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 and MAX+ 388, by making Radeon 8060S GPU more widely available, give rise to new powerful choices for content creators and gamers on laptops, Mini PCs, and handheld gaming devices.
