Globe's Smallest eMMC Flash Drive From ATP Electronics
According to ATP Electronics, it has the smallest eMMC flash drive in the world. Measuring a mere 6.7 x 6.7 mm, the small drive is also 67% less than the normal solutions and is meant for devices with space constraints such as smart glasses and wearables.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The new eMMC module is designed to meet the JEDEC eMMC 5.1 standard, despite dimensions that are small. It can operate under x1, x4, and x8 modes while supporting HS400 DDR interface for a maximum throughput of 400 MB/s. The height of the module is only 0.65 mm and therefore fits into the thin frames of smart glasses-and the manufacturer claims that this form factor does not generate high heat.
Power Efficiency
A major highlight of the new drive is its low power consumption. The intelligent firmware and aggressive power management system on the device enable it to conserve almost 70% of energy use, when compared with conventional drives, by instituting very fast switching between active and standby modes. This is expected to add some hours to the battery life of wearables.
Capacity and Endurance Options
The new eMMC comes in two configurations, catering to different requirements:
- TLC 64GB version-Offers 12TB of write capacity.
- pSLC, 20GB version-Offers a high endurance of 680TB of write capacity.
Current Status:
The new devices, developed under the designation E700Pc and E600Vc series, are all under validation with wearable technology manufacturers and other gadgets.
