BMW Confirms First All-Electric M-Series Car with Four Motors
BMW has confirmed the preparation of the first fully electric sports car for its M series. The model will be developed on the new Neue Klasse platform and will set a groundwork for a new performance architecture with four individual electric motors, one for each wheel.
A New Era of Vehicle Dynamics Control
New electronic architecture forms the basis of a new-age electric M car. The entire vehicle will be controlled through modern central computers rather than the conventional distinct set of controlling units. An exclusive module known as the Heart of Joy will provide proprietary BMW M Dynamic Performance Control Software, responsible for the real-time traction control of each wheel with much faster-a response time compared to current M models.
To achieve this level of control, BMW has designed its own front and rear drive systems, which comprise two motors in each case, with each motor having its own gearbox and power electronics.
Track-Centric Battery Technology
Power will come from a high-voltage M battery, whose capacity will exceed at least 100kWh. The battery's technology is geared toward performance on the track rather than maximizing range. Some of its design features are:
- Low internal resistance of cells.
- Higher power density.
- Dual-sided cooling system.
This configuration enables the car to sustain maximum power for an extended period without overheating or losing performance.
M Driving Experience
Features will be provided by BMW to enhance the driving experience. A simulated gear shift function with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel and a virtual rev limiter will be included in the car. The owner can switch between a silent electric drive mode and feel the engine simulation.
Release Date
The first electric BMW M sports car is expected to debut in 2027.
