Open World of Crimson Desert "Will Be at Least Twice Bigger than Skyrim"

Pearl Abyss has announced the heyday size for its upcoming action-RPG, Crimson Desert. During New Game+ Showcase 2026, it was stated that the world map of the game was going to be even bigger than other famous names in the open-world genre.

One Unprecedented Scale

PR Man for Pearl Abyss Will Powers gave a direct comparison when he stated "at least twice the size of [The Elder Scrolls V:] Skyrim, and bigger than the map in Red Dead Redemption 2." Powers stated this was a rough comparison and avoided giving out any exact numbers.

Emphasis on Interactivity and Character Customization

The developers maintain that the design of the world prioritizes dense interactivity over anything simply based on the size. The intention is to populate the vastness of that map with heavy activities and side quests.

"We wanted to create a world that was not only expansive but also incredibly interactive"

- Will Powers, PR Director, Pearl Abyss

The question of romance development systems and standard RPG mechanisms was clarified to be absent by Powers. Instead, the team is working on a system that achieves varying character builds so that every player has their diverse adventure.

Release Date and Platforms

Crimson Desert will be released on March 20. It will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. The project was initially conceived as a prequel to Pearl Abyss's other title, Black Desert Online.
