EA Drake Servers for The Anthem Rendering the Game Unplayable

As of January 12th, Electronic Arts has permanently switched off the servers of BioWare's action game, Anthem. Since this game is connected in an online environment, it has become inaccessible in all ways to users, including its single-player campaign.

Historical Retrospective The Game's Troubled Past

This title was an equally ambitious project for both BioWare and EA and launched on February 22, 2019, to commendations for flight mechanics and beautiful environments. In the end, however, it was not able to capture many gamers from the likes of Destiny.

One of the biggest criticisms was that the content present at launch was sorely limited. The developers did have a major overhaul in mind called Anthem Next. This overhaul was supposed to implement player feedback and add new content. However, Electronic Arts later canceled it, sealing the game's fate.

The Closure of an Experiment in Live Services

The shutdown raises concerns over the life of games that can never be played offline. Such was the fate of Anthem, underperformed in terms of sales, but to be active for nearly seven years on computer, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One before its demise.
