Fallout London Lead States Bethesda Recruiting Strong Writers
According to Dean Carter, the chief creator of the successful fan project Fallout: London, glaring criticisms have been leveled against the current creative direction of Bethesda. In an interview with Esport.net, Carter expressed that Bethesda's quality in terms of writing has gone into decline, and it felt as though Fallout had lost its serious, dark roots.
On Bethesda's Declining Writing Quality
Carter mentioned that it was painful for him to admit that Bethesda's works, to him, were "no longer in good hands" because he had been a longtime fan of the studio. To him, the main crux of the issue was simple the absence of skilled writers.
The quality of their writing has obviously suffered...I think if they had appointed strong writers, both the upcoming fallout and The Elder Scrolls would be terrific games. They need better writing now more than ever.

A Call to End the Circus
Carter also criticized the creative process, giving attention to the tonal variation of the Fallout series. According to him, the games have become too much of a "sheer farce," devoid of the grim atmosphere that distinguished the first title.
I like Fallout 4, but I also wish it had more of the atmosphere of Fallout 1. A serious, dark tone, rather than sheer farce, is what the series is missing. Even the humor in the first game was dark. It's time to stop this circus, because Fallout is about something else.

The Future for Team FOLON
When asked about his team's work, Carter confirmed that Team FOLON is working on a new, large-scale project with a major budget. No specifics were given, but he hopes his team will be remembered as enthusiasts whose work is indistinguishable in quality from that of a large corporation.
