MediaTek Dimensity 7100 Mobiles Chip Launched and Found to Be Energy Efficient
MediaTek has unveiled a new 6nm mobile platform targeted at mid-range smartphones, Dimensity 7100. The company said that the main focus of the development of this new chip was energy efficiency.
Core Specifications
The new chip is powered by an octa-core CPU and supports all modern hardware standards.
- The CPU: 4 Arm Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.4 GHz and 4 Cortex-A55 cores up to 2.0 GHz.
- The GPU: Mali-G610MC2 graphics accelerator.
- Memory Support: LPDDR5-5500 and LPDDR4x-4266 RAM.
- Storage Support: UFS 3.1.
- Display Support: Up to 1200x2600 pixel resolution with 120Hz refresh rate.
- Camera Support: Image sensors with a resolution of up to 200 MP.
Connectivity
The new platform offers support for today’s wireless and positioning standards.
- Wireless: 5G, WiFi 6, and Bluetooth 5.4.
- Positioning System: GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo, QZSS, and NavIC.
Power Efficiency Improvement
MediaTek claims the new chip is more power-efficient than the previous one.
- Application Launch: 5% less power utilization compared to the previous model.
- Modem: A 23% increase in efficiency.
- Content playback: Power consumption decreased by 16%.
It also incorporates a new power management scheme characterized by 45W fast charging and ultra-low voltage mode, which could conceivably extend battery life by 7%.
First-run Smartphone with Dimensity 7100
The Infinix Note Edge is speculated to be the first smartphone to use the Dimensity 7100 chipset. It is slated for release in late January.
