New PlayStation 5 Exploit Discovered Via Game Disc

The next possible exploit for the PlayStation 5 has been found utilizing a vulnerability derived from a physical copy of a specific game. The game in question is Star Wars: Racer Revenge, a remaster of a 2002 racing game.

The 'Racer Revenge' Exploit Method

As claimed by developers of the exploit, this method is dependent on several very particular conditions:

  • It uses an unpatched physical disc copy of Star Wars: Racer Revenge.
  • It is said to trigger the vulnerability through the Hall of Fame menu of the game.
  • The exploit allows the user to run custom code on the console.

Importantly, this exploit does not affect the digital version of the game, which had its vulnerability patched in prior software updates.

Game Prices Surge Following News

This announcement of a possible exploit has subsequently turned the original physical version of Star Wars: Racer Revenge into a collector's item. Prices on various marketplace platforms such as eBay for this game have now shot up to fetching anywhere from $150 to $800.

This inflation has also been made worse by the already unbelievably rare nature of the game. Only 8,500 physical copies of the remaster were produced in 2019 through Limited Run Games, making it quite rare even before this discovery.
