Sandfall Interactive Will Not Expand Team Following 'Expedition 33' Success
Following the success of their RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, developer Sandfall Interactive has stated they have no plans to expand their team size. The studio believes that creating high-quality games does not require a massive workforce and intends to maintain its current scale for future projects.
Studio Prioritizes a Focused, Hands-On Approach
In a recent interview with Edge, Creative Director Guillaume Broch and Lead Programmer Tom Guillermain explained their reasoning. They stated that their next project will be of a similar scale to Expedition 33, making a larger team unnecessary. Furthermore, Sandfall's management values being actively involved in the production process, a practice that becomes difficult in a large studio environment.
We strive to release high-quality games and don't believe that a large team is necessary for this.
Tom Guillermain, Lead Programmer at Sandfall Interactive
Broch and Guillermain also emphasized that the current team at Sandfall Interactive is very close-knit, and they see no reason to alter the company's structure. They aim to avoid the mistakes made by other small studios that expanded too quickly after an initial success, often leading to production delays.
Acknowledging Collaboration
While the core team is small, it has been noted by some critics that the development of *Expedition 33* also involved contributions from freelancers and specialists hired by its publisher, Kepler Interactive. This collaborative effort supported the in-house team in creating the final product.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released on April 24, 2025, and received numerous awards, establishing Sandfall Interactive as a noteworthy studio in the industry.
