ROG Xbox Ally X price in Japan shows 30000 yen increase

The ROG Xbox Ally X price in Japan now shows a 30000 yen increase. The ROG Xbox Ally X portable gaming PC developed by ASUS and Microsoft for highend gaming now costs more in Japan. The device, which launched at 139,800 yen (tax included), is now listed on ASUS sales sites for 169,800 yen, marking a 30,000 yen increase.

The official Microsoft website currently shows the original price of 139,800 yen at this time. The website links to retailers who already adopted the higher price point of 169,800 yen. The entrylevel ROG Xbox Ally maintains its original price of 89,800 yen while only the highend "X" model will experience this price change.

Price levels remain steady throughout markets outside of Japan. The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X keep their US retail prices at $599.99 and $999.99. The standard ASUS ROG Ally and ROG Ally X base models have also not seen a price increase at this time.

The series operates in the "Play Anywhere" ecosystem which uses Windows 11 as its operating system. Key features include

  • Platform Compatibility: The system supports Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft Store, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net gaming platforms.
  • Remote and Cloud Play: Users can stream games from their Xbox consoles or through Xbox Cloud Gaming to play remotely.
  • Handheld Optimization: Each device undergoes testing under the Handheld Compatibility Program to ensure hardware and software stability.

The Japanese price increase lacks an official explanation from the company but market analysis shows external market forces drove the price hike. The AI sector's rapid growth has created a global memory shortage which now drives up CPU and SSD component prices. Valve has determined that market conditions needed to be reassessed before establishing new pricing and release dates for its upcoming Steam Machine.

The Japanese distributor has been contacted for clarification regarding why this price adjustment currently only affects the ROG Xbox Ally X within the Japanese market.
