Steam Hardware Survey January 2026 Results and Hardware Trends
The Steam Hardware Survey from January 2026 shows significant changes in both video memory capacity and display resolution standards. Valve published its January 2026 hardware survey results. The data shows that although hardware rankings stay constant, Steam users demonstrate a tendency to acquire equipment that offers increased video memory and better display resolution.
The most prominent change in January was found in graphics card memory capacity. GPUs with 16GB of VRAM experienced a 5.85% share increase, which raised their total market presence to 14.55%. The share of 12GB models decreased by 4.01% during the same timeframe, which brought their total share to 15.07%. This suggests users are increasingly prioritizing higher memory buffers for modern gaming requirements.
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 remains the most widely used graphics card on the platform, with a 4.16% market share that has increased by 0.46%. The mobile version of the RTX 4060 occupies second place with 3.79%.
Display trends show a move toward higher fidelity. The 1440p resolution grew by 0.73%, which now applies to 21.32% of users. However, 1080p (Full HD) remains the standard for the majority, accounting for 52.59% of systems.
User upgrades to 32GB of RAM continue, with a 1.45% increase bringing its total share to 38.02%. The 16GB RAM configuration continues to be the most popular choice, representing 40.24% of users.
The operating system statistics show only slight changes
- Windows 11 66.71% (+0.11%)
- Windows 10 27.79% (+0.28%)
Meta devices hold 64.23% of the virtual reality market as they continue to dominate this segment. The Quest 3 continues to gain users (+0.36%), while the older Quest 2 saw a decline of 0.92% as players migrate to newer hardware like the Quest 3 and 3S.
