Death Stranding 2 Releases on PC March 19 with New High Difficulty Modes VR Training and Graphical Enhancements Including Ray Tracing and Ultrawide Support for PlayStation 5 and PC Systems

The PC version of Death Stranding 2 will be released on March 19 together with upgraded technical capabilities and additional gameplay features. The sequel follows Sam as he travels through Mexico and Australia to expand the Chiral network. Kojima Productions confirmed that the PlayStation 5 version of the game will receive all new gameplay content which will be released at the same time as the PC version.

The update introduces "To the Wilder" which is a high difficulty mode specifically designed for advanced players. The mode presents players with hostile environments and aggressive enemies which they must navigate through until their journey reaches its conclusion. Players now have access to "Trapped in a Strange Realm" which serves as a new training area for VR.

The VR training session allows users to experience conflict between Neil and themselves to earn new cosmetic items which include bandanas. The Chiral Feline companion now appears in the private room while the team has integrated him into the upgraded Photo Mode system. Players who connect their accounts will gain access to new design patches (Quokka, Chiral Cat) and an exclusive suit based on the PlayStation logo design for their backpack customization.

The PC version developed with Nixxes Software includes various platform specific optimization features which enhance performance on high end systems. Key technical features include:

  • Complete compatibility with NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR and Intel XeSS which includes support for frame generation.
  • Ray tracing options which enable reflections on water and tar surfaces.
  • Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion for generating realistic shadows.
  • Super ultrawide format (32:9) during active gameplay and standard ultrawide format (21:9) during cinematic sequences.
  • Complete control through mouse and keyboard remapping options.
  • Support for DualSense haptic feedback and Spatial Sound functionality.

The PS5 updates will be available to players on the same date as the PC launch. The game update will introduce the "To the Wilder" mode plus the VR training missions and the Photo Mode enhancements to the console version. The console version will receive standard 21:9 ultrawide support through a free game update.

The Digital Deluxe Edition provides players with early access to content and access to special "Gold" versions of the Battle, Boost and Bokka skeletons. Additional bonuses include:

  • Players who purchase the PC version before March 19 will unlock "Silver" skeleton variants.
  • Early unlock bonus access to a Quokka hologram.

Nixxes working on this release enabled the game to achieve visual upgrades which improve the PC experience while matching existing content for PlayStation 5 users.
