MacBook Air 2026 M5 Processor Launch and Specifications
The MacBook Air which Apple launched now uses M5 processor technology. The company introduced two different sized 13.6 inch and 15.3 inch models which both run on the M5 processor. The current MacBook Air generation brings various improvements which include better AI processing performance and more storage capacity and new wireless technology support. The pre order period begins on March 4 while customers can buy the product from stores starting March 11 2026.
MacBook Air now uses M5 architecture to improve its machine learning and graphics processing capabilities. The chip has a 10 core CPU with 10 GPU cores which also includes a new neural network accelerator that works inside every graphics core.
- AI Benchmarks Apple reports that AI task performance has increased four times since M4 and has improved by 9.5 times compared to the original M1 chip.
- Memory Bandwidth The system now supports 153 GB/s bandwidth, a 28% improvement over the previous generation.
- Graphics A new hardware accelerated ray tracing engine has been integrated to improve 3D rendering speeds.
The entry level specifications for Apple products have received their first change after multiple product release cycles. The base configuration now starts with a 512GB SSD, effectively doubling the previous 256GB standard. The MacBook Air now allows professional users to select 4TB of internal storage as their maximum storage capacity. The new SSDs achieve double the reading and writing speeds which results in faster operation when handling large file imports and starting applications.
The Air line continues its silent operation through its fanless aluminum chassis design which uses an aluminum material for its entire physical structure. Both models feature the Liquid Retina display, capable of 500 nits brightness.
Integrated hardware for communication includes

The 2026 models introduce the N1 wireless chip, which enables support for Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The laptops offer two Thunderbolt 4 ports for wired connections which now allow users to connect two external displays simultaneously. The power brick has been upgraded to a 40W Dynamic Power adapter which delivers 60W maximum output when used.
