Apple Unveils MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips

Apple launched its newest MacBook Pro models on March 3 2026 which include 14 inch and 16 inch screen versions. The professional laptops use M5 Pro and M5 Max chips which bring major advancements in AI processing power and professional rendering skills and gaming performance. Customers can begin pre ordering products on March 4 while the official sales will begin on March 11.

The M5 series chips deliver a 30% boost in CPU computing capacity when compared to the prior chip generation. Each graphics core of the GPU architecture now includes an AI accelerator which enables Apple systems to achieve impressive performance improvements for local AI processing tasks.

  • AI Workloads: The current system delivers performance that exceeds the M4 series by 4 times and the original M1 lineup by 8 times.
  • Gaming: The M5 Pro delivers 1.6 times performance improvement over its previous version when playing Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition through its ray tracing technology.
  • Professional Software: DaVinci Resolve Studio and Topaz Video AI achieve rendering speeds which are 3 to 5 times faster than M1 Max systems.

The system upgrades show better performance through increased bandwidth and expanded basic storage space. The SSD system now achieves speeds which have doubled to reach a maximum of 14.5 GB/s. The M5 Pro starts with 1 TB basic storage while M5 Max starts with 2 TB basic storage.

  • M5 Pro: The system can handle 64 GB of unified memory which operates at 307 GB/s memory bandwidth.
  • M5 Max: The system can handle 128 GB of unified memory which operates at 614 GB/s memory bandwidth.

The 2026 models introduce the N1 wireless chip enabling Wi Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support. The physical I/O section contains three Thunderbolt 5 ports and an HDMI output which can display 8K resolution and an SDXC slot. The two chips support different display capabilities because the M5 Pro can handle two external displays while the M5 Max supports four external displays.

The Liquid Retina XDR display remains the standard display which provides peak HDR brightness of 1600 nits and SDR brightness of 1000 nits. A matte nano texture finish is available as an option. The camera system has been upgraded to a 12 megapixel Center Stage camera with Desk View support.

Apple claims a total battery life of up to 24 hours for these models. The 96W power adapter enables fast charging which lets laptops reach 50% battery charge within 30 minutes through MagSafe 3 port.

The starting prices for the M5 series MacBook Pros in the US are as follows

  • 14 inch M5 Pro: Begins at $2,199
  • 14 inch M5 Max: Begins at $3,599
  • 16 inch M5 Pro: Begins at $2,699
  • 16 inch M5 Max: Begins at $3,899
