Nothing just dropped the Phone (4a) and Phone (4a) Pro adding to their smartphone lineup. These phones are a step up from the previous ones sporting faster 144Hz screens periscope telephoto cameras and a cooler Glyph lighting setup. They both run Nothing OS 4.1 (based on Android 16) and are promised three big OS updates and six years of security updates.

The Pro is the top dog running on a 4nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip. This chip has an eight core Kryo CPU that can hit 2.8 GHz plus an Adreno 722 GPU and a Hexagon AI engine. You can get it with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Its got a 6.83 inch AMOLED screen with a 1260 × 2800 resolution. The screen can refresh at 144 Hz and gets super bright hitting 5000 nits at its peak. For gamers the touch sampling rate is at 2500 Hz

The Pro camera setup includes

  • Main 50 MP Sony LYT700C sensor with OIS
  • Telephoto 50 MP periscope lens with 3.5x optical zoom and 140x digital zoom
  • Ultrawide 8 MP Sony sensor
  • Selfie 32 MP front camera

The standard Phone (4a) has a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip and LPDDR4X RAM. Its 6.78 inch AMOLED screen has a 1224 × 2720 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate reaching 4500 nits at its brightest. It shares the same 50 MP main camera and 3.5x optical periscope lens as the Pro but the digital zoom maxes out at 70x.

Glyph Goodness and Battery Life

Nothing tweaked their signature lighting. The Pro gets a

  • Glyph Matrix (Pro) It uses a grid of 137 mini LEDs that can show fairly detailed icons animations and notifications in a pixel style
  • Glyph Bar (Standard) They’ve also redone the 63 LED system spreading it across the zones for telling you what’s up

Both phones pack a 5080 mAh battery for most places but the Indian versions get a bigger 5400 mAh battery. They charge at 50 W with a cable and the Pro can also do 7.5 W reverse wired charging for your accessories.

The Phone (4a) comes in white pink blue and black. The Pro will be in silver metallic pink and black. The prices shake out like this

  • Nothing Phone (4a) Starting at €349 ($405) for the 8 GB / 128 GB model
  • Nothing Phone (4a) Pro Starting at €479 ($556) for the 8 GB / 128 GB model

You can pre order the Phone (4a) on March 5 and it will be generally available on March 13. The Phone (4a) Pro pre orders start on March 13 with a release date of March 27 for most of the world.
