Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 with minor updates
As part of its updates to the Snapdragon series, Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. It is a bit of an upgrade from the outgoing Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 and is expected to power the highly anticipated Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus from Xiaomi.
Performance A Modest 7% Upscale
It is, however, not much different from those previous. In general, the minor performance gains should be due to it bearing the same SM7635 part number as before. Officially, Qualcomm states its new chip is, just, faster by 7%. For the record, the regular 'non-s' version Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, released last May, had much more significant boosts in CPU and GPU performance over its predecessor by 27% and 30%, respectively.
The prime source of the performance increase of the 7s Gen 4 is from a 200 MHz increase in its prime CPU core which now operates at 2.7 GHz. The core frequencies remain the same:
- Other Cortex-A720 Cores 2.4 GHz
- Four Cortex-A520 Cores 1.8 GHz
Major Changes and Similarities within the Technical Features
Aside from the prime core clock speed, the most important alteration is in display support. Now, the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 adds support to display resolutions up to 2,900 x 1,300 pixels, but still keeps the same maximum refresh rate at 144 Hz. Other technical specifications are apparently similar to that of the previous Snapdragon 7s Gen 3.
Expectedly Debuting in the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus
The first smartphone to adopt the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 will be the Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus. It is going to replace the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, which was used in the previous model of the device.
