Starfield Launches on PlayStation 5 this April 7 with the New Terran Armada Story Expansion and the Free Lanes Systemic Update Featuring Free Space Flight and PS5 Pro Support
Bethesda Softworks has announced that Starfield will officially launch on PlayStation 5 on April 7 2026. The upcoming release introduces a major content update that brings new gameplay elements through its free systemic upgrade and its Terran Armada story extension. The PlayStation 5 version includes all enhancements which have been developed during the time between its initial release and the present day.
The PS5 version includes specific hardware integrations designed for the DualSense controller and the PlayStation 5 Pro console. The technical updates work to enhance user experience by delivering realistic physical sensations together with superior visual performance.
- DualSense Integration Adaptive triggers react differently based on weapon type and starship loadouts. The controller speaker handles in game audio logs and intercom communications while the touchpad provides quick access to the hand scanner and map.
- Haptic Feedback The light bar serves as a visual representation which shows player health status and ship damage status during combat.
- PS5 Pro Enhancements A Visual Mode provides 4K resolution at 30 frames per second (fps) while a Performance Mode offers a 60 fps experience with enhanced graphical settings.
The update named Free Lanes will be available across all platforms at its launch because it introduces main exploration features. The update allows players to explore space without limitations while they experience a more immersive sandbox gameplay.
- Space Flight Players can now fly freely between planets within a single star system without relying solely on fast travel.
- Random Encounters The number of space events has been increased because new encounter types have been added to the existing selection.
- Customization The game now provides players access to a new resource which enables them to control ship and gear changes at a more detailed level.
- New Game+ Players can now choose to retain specific gear while they increase their Starborn abilities through advanced gameplay options.
The Terran Armada story DLC introduces a new threat to the Settled Systems a highly advanced robotic army. The expansion introduces a new gameplay experience through its dedicated campaign which takes place in the Incursion system and features advanced technology and a new companion character and exclusive rewards. The DLC is available as a standalone purchase or as part of the Premium Edition.
The Trackers Alliance bounty arc debuts through the Creations menu. The bundle contains seven targets which possess high value status. Each bounty requires players to complete mission objectives by following mark trails through different star systems while they make distinct story choices and chase after targets.
Starfield and the accompanying Terran Armada expansion will be available on the PlayStation Store starting April 7. The existing players on all platforms will receive the Free Lanes systemic update as a free download on the same day it becomes available.
