CD Projekt Red Presents The Witcher 4 Gameplay Changes
CD Projekt Red presents the gameplay changes which will occur in The Witcher 4. The CD Projekt Red development team presented new technical and gameplay information about The Witcher series main character to their AnsweRED podcast. The project continues to undergo active production work because The Witcher III Wild Hunt creators have confirmed two major changes from established game mechanics.
The most important mechanical change occurs when players control character movement and combat movements. The upcoming title introduces a free jump button which players can use to control their movement between different areas of the game world. The development team created a new combat system for Ciri which centers on her ability to perform agile maneuvers.
Mobile Spellcasting Ciri can use magic while she walks which creates more flexible battle approaches because Geralt needed to stay put when he used Signs. The team has built a complete new animation system for their project. The system includes more than 80 unique animations for basic movement and traversal which create a more authentic movement experience for users.
Emotional Fidelity The upcoming facial animation technology will enable actors to perform a wider range of emotional expressions compared to previous characters who could only show limited facial movements. The developers described the game world as having the same enormous open world area which exists in The Witcher III. The new title shifts its focus from open world design to creating more compact game environments which players can interact with. The development team intends to make the game world feel more real by adding interactive elements and non player characters which create a realistic environment that surpasses the capabilities of 2015 technology.
The project will be publicly demonstrated at Unreal Engine Fest 2026 which will occur from June 16th to June 18th. The event will demonstrate how CD Projekt Red uses engine tools to create the game world and characters.
CD Projekt Red has not announced a release date for the game despite sharing more information with the public. The studio wants to announce their launch window at a later date because they want to prevent repeat technical issues which occurred during Cyberpunk 2077s initial launch. The development team must first obtain full game stability before making the game available to players.
