Framework Laptop 13 Pro Redesign Featuring Intel Panther Lake Architecture CNC Aluminum Chassis Energy Efficiency and 16 Inch Workstation Capabilities
Framework initiates its Next Gen period by introducing a completely redesigned Laptop 13 Pro. The Framework Computer team has completed its most extensive development effort after working on six hardware versions which evolved through seven complete hardware generations. The company introduced its new Framework Laptop 13 Pro during the Next Gen hardware event which represented a complete shift from its previous modular systems by focusing on achieving maximum power efficiency through advanced design materials. The new system uses CNC machining to create its aluminum chassis which includes Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Panther Lake silicon components instead of using conventional assembly techniques.
The engineering team dedicated its efforts to achieving a major enhancement in energy efficiency because users identified this area as their primary complaint about earlier product versions. Framework now claims its machine provides 20 hours of 4K video playback because it uses Intel architecture together with a 74Wh battery and high density energy cells. LPCAMM2 memory modules provide support for user memory upgrades which can reach 64GB at speeds of 7467 MT/s while decreasing the physical size requirements of the memory modules. The new haptic touchpad together with the 13.5 inch 3:2 touchscreen which reaches a maximum brightness of 700 nits improves the physical interaction and visual design of the product.
The company maintains its core belief in connectivity as an essential principle while introducing contemporary connectivity standards. The Laptop 13 Pro provides support for PCIe Gen 5 NVMe storage which achieves 14,000 MB/s data transfer speeds and Wi Fi 7 and four Thunderbolt 4 ports. Users can choose between two options which include the Ubuntu pre built configuration developed with Canonical at a price of 1,499 dollars and the DIY Edition which starts at 1,199 dollars for users who will install their own operating system. The two models will begin shipping to customers in June 2026.
The company announced its flagship product together with details about the larger 16 inch model. The device now includes a complete keyboard and haptic touchpad as its core input components to serve as a workstation. Framework introduced its OCuLink Dev Kit which will work with the 16 inch platform. The modular bridge system enables users to connect internal PCIe lanes directly to an external dock which allows them to transfer high bandwidth data to either desktop grade graphics cards or networking cards that operate at 100 Gb speeds, thus transforming the portable device into a permanent computing station.
Nirav Patel, who founded the company, described the event as the ultimate achievement which would meet power users and developers needs for a better portable product. The company develops repairable modular chassis systems which enable their users to design new expansion cards through their collaboration work on development projects, such as the 10Gb Ethernet module which they built together with Winispi. Framework now positions itself as a major threat to premium laptop brands through its latest product updates while upholding its fundamental belief in customer repair rights.
