Sony Develops 007 First Light Limited Edition DualSense Controller to Celebrate the Return of James Bond to Video Games with Special Hardware
Sony has developed a customized 007 DualSense controller to celebrate James Bond s return to video games. The return of James Bond to video games leads Sony Interactive Entertainment to develop special hardware as a key strategy for defining this occasion. The company has unveiled its DualSense wireless controller which features the 007 First Light Limited Edition as a special tribute that connects traditional movie spy designs with contemporary haptic technology. The limited edition controller will become available world wide on May 27 to coincide with the PlayStation 5 launch of 007 First Light.
The controller designers chose to create an exceptional design by using a shining golden finish which reflects the franchise s established heritage. Rasmus Poulsen, the Franchise Art Director tasked with the project, described the aesthetic as a design that combines refined beauty with popular cultural elements. According to Poulsen, the touchpad design includes barrel shaped patterns which function as both a reference point to franchise visual identity and a representation of players future game tactile sensations. The design team aimed to develop a controller that would instantly convey Bond brand identity to players through their first touch of the device.
The hardware includes all current PlayStation peripheral features while its visual changes enhance the existing components. Sony wants the adaptive triggers to deliver precise feedback during battle scenes while the haptic engine reproduces the power of the game’s explosive moments. The hardware launch presents an opportunity to build a new narrative about Bond’s character development which allows players to experience Bond’s early life.
The 007 First Light Limited Edition will begin its market introduction with pre orders that will begin on April 17. The retail price for the product has been set at $84.99 USD while the United Kingdom and Japan and Eurozone will have different pricing systems. Customers can purchase products through two channels direct.playstation.com and through authorized retail merchants. The production run limits of the release demonstrate a business strategy which targets dedicated collectors in the franchise while the character prepares to return after thirteen years away from video games.
