Tesla Ends Model S and Model X Production with an Exclusive Valedictory Series Signature Edition and Factory Retooling for Robotics
The production of Model S and X will be completed by Tesla through their special Valedictory Series production run. Tesla has officially initiated the final chapter for its flagship electric vehicles, the Model S and Model X. The company Announced a strictly limited Signature Edition run which functions as the closing production phase for its existing liftback and crossover models. Tesla uses personal invitations as its system to handle sales for the 350 vehicles which will be produced from these final units.
The production split favors the liftback, with 250 units of the Model S being assembled compared to just 100 units of the six seater Model X. Each vehicle carries its own particular Garnet Red exterior paint which functions as the exclusive decorative finish for this special commemorative series and is decorated with gold toned badges and logos and external accents. The interior cabins contain special Alcantara inserts and gold design elements while every individual vehicle displays its unique serial badge which identifies its position as the last car of the production line.
The final versions of both models have their differences because of how engineers developed their designs. The Model S Signature Edition arrives with performance oriented carbon ceramic brakes paired with gold finished calipers while the Model X uses its regular braking components. The yoke style steering system and large wheel sizes and complete premium package options beyond standard flagship features come equipped with both vehicle types.
The pricing for these final vehicles sits at a significant premium with entry points starting at $159420. The markup of about $30,000 results from two factors which include the limited availability of the production run and the final phase of the platform's operational period. The retirement of these models matches the long term operational objectives which Elon Musk established for the Fremont facility. The assembly line will cease operation for Model S and Model X which will lead to the factory area receiving its retooling process which will transform Tesla into a new production route that will support their upcoming Optimus robotics project and their new mass market electric vehicle platform which remains unconfirmed.
