Cold Iron Studios Unveils Aliens Fireteam Elite 2 for Summer 2026 Release With 4 Player Cooperative Gameplay and New Specialist Class Customization Systems
The cooperative shooter market will see a major addition this year as Cold Iron Studios and Daybreak Game Company officially announced Aliens Fireteam Elite 2. The game currently exists as a sequel to the 2021 third person shooter which is under development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The title will have its Summer 2026 release window according to IGN First reveal coverage which also confirmed that the game will include complete cross play functionality at its initial launch.
The sequel introduces a fundamental mechanical change by increasing the number of players who can participate in fireteam operations. The original game utilized a 3 player squad system while the new entry adopts a 4 player cooperative gameplay model. Players will gain access to new tactical methods which will assist them in overcoming Xenomorph threats through this gameplay modification. Daybreak Game Company has taken over publishing responsibilities for this edition while Cold Iron Studios continues to lead development work on the project.
The sequel introduces a high level of character flexibility through the new Specialist class. Players can create their own character builds by selecting abilities from all classes because this role prohibits them from choosing fixed class abilities. Teams can design specific countermeasures against various Xenomorph threats through this customization option. Standard classes return with improved tactical equipment which includes electric ammunition and cryo mines to handle crowd management.
The game increases enemy count and types to match the requirements of its 4 player team setup. The game will launch with multiple dedicated Horde maps featuring escalating waves of enemies. Players who want to earn rewards in this mode must complete survival challenges at increasingly difficult levels. The primary campaign will provide players between 8 to 12 hours of gameplay according to early reports which focus on the Colonial Marines fighting against a new outbreak.
The 2026 release will feature an upgraded lighting system and enhanced atmospheric effects to meet the franchise's horror theme requirements. Cross play enables players from different hardware platforms to create squads which helps them build teams across all available platforms. The title has already become available for wishlisting on digital storefronts although the studio has not yet announced its specific release date. The series expands through this launch because it transitions from its original 3 player format to a conventional 4 player cooperative multiplayer format.
