Lancia Gamma Crossover Fastback Unveiled on STLA Medium Platform

Lancia New Gamma Crossover Styling and Performance Details Reveal a Premium Italian Fastback With Hybrid and Electric Options

Lancia has provided early styling details for the New Gamma, the first crossover ever in the rally heritage brand’s lineage. This model, which uses a 400 volt electrical architecture on an STLA Medium platform, is an integral part of the brand's resurgence under the Stellantis group and is currently completing its final road testing stages in Italy. The vehicle will be produced at the Stellantis manufacturing facility in Melfi.

The exterior styling of the New Gamma gives it a crossover fastback profile, with a sloping rear roofline to maximize aerodynamics. The manufacturer states official design parameters put the New Gamma at 4.67 meters in length, 1.89 meters in width and 1.66 meters in height, with the styling appearing both imposing on the road yet well proportioned, offering a functional interior space and an ability to display its premium Italian engineering and technology.

Stellantis has offered a comprehensive range of engine and performance choices for the New Gamma, including hybrid and all electric versions. Entry level hybrid versions are rated to output 145 HP, and achieve an integrated driving range of over 1000km. The all electric line up can be specified with three power outputs, the standard front wheel drive versions produce 230 HP, offer over 540 km of range on a single charge, the up rated version reaches 245 HP and offers over 740km.

The performance orientated version uses twin motor, all wheel drive to achieve a stated peak output of 375 HP and uses the 104 kWh battery to offer up to 675km of range. Offering both high efficiency hybrid versions and long range fully electric versions should ensure there is something to attract most European consumers, as the market trends towards greater electrification.

Inside the cabin the designers have aimed for functional ergonomics rather than bare screens and the New Gamma does not stray into the world of a purely minimal screen dashboard. This vehicle includes a physical array of buttons, with climate controls particularly having been kept tactile, in addition to a full digital instrument cluster and wide centre infotainment screen. Orders for the New Gamma will likely be open shortly after summer, with the Stellantis group expected to release official price and specification information in the coming weeks.
