Samsung Implements Potent Notification Spam Filtering in a New Device Care Update to Combat Aggressive App Alerts and Marketing Deep Sleep Tools
Samsung has rolled out a tool to counter any apps that misuse the notification system via deceptive ads and aggressive notifications. Galaxy device users began noticing the change in the Device Care update version 13.8.80.7 in the One UI operating system a couple days ago. The tool is intended to counter applications that flood the system with marketing alerts or demands for other applications to be downloaded.
The application will simply deep sleep an offending program by taking away the permission for it to have active background processes or send notifications to the user. An application that exhibits this tendency is banned until the owner manually opens the application. Owners will have access to the list of these applications through the Device Care settings menu and can manually choose the notification rights for the selected applications.
Owners will have two different modes to apply to this system. They can either use the internal list of applications to ban as spamming programs or use the second and intelligent mode where an algorithm looks at each notification that is presented to the owner to find a marketing notification and then stops that notification and places the application into deep sleep until it is opened by the user.
The second of the modes of operation has a warning from Samsung that the algorithms that control the intelligent notifications may flag and stop a legitimate notification, which of course is the case. Even so this second method provides a better and more accurate source to remove marketing notifications. The tool now allows one click protection against the most annoying parts of smart phone usage.
