Warhorse Studios Kingdom Come Deliverance Creators Used Skyrim Critique To Improve RPG Realism

Warhorse Studios Developers Use Skyrim Criticism To Build Historical Accuracy and Realism in Kingdom Come Deliverance Through Logical Design and Immersion

A recent interactive session on Reddit with Warhorse Studios has highlighted the unconventional inspiration behind the creation of Kingdom Come Deliverance. Daniel Vavra the creative director of the project reportedly used the popular RPG The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim as a primary example of how not to develop a role playing game. This revelation surfaced during a discussion about the focus on realism and historical accuracy that defines the work of the Czech studio.

Vavra wrote a detailed critique which contained 116 specific reasons for his dissatisfaction with the design of the Bethesda flagship before he released his own title. His list targeted a wide range of issues including repetitive mission structures and primitive mechanical design. He identified logical inconsistencies in the game world by showing architectural mistakes which made buildings appear to have bigger internal spaces than their external dimensions. The report listed narrative incoherence together with basic physics errors which included the specific case of 3 pounds of iron being able to create a 12 pound sword.

The exhaustive list of complaints which Ondrej Bittner content director at Warhorse Studios described to his team served as their guide to developing Kingdom Come Deliverance. The project aimed to reduce elements which disrupted player immersion while maintaining historical accuracy. Vavra needed environmental realism so he required functional toilets to exist in fantasy worlds which he believed were missing from all other fantasy realms. The developers of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 continued their dedication to detail through their decision to maintain latrine usage from the initial game which they later enhanced through post launch updates.

The franchise has maintained its success for 15 years because its critical approach to the genre appeals to a large number of players. Vavra created a new experience that felt more realistic by showing how industry leaders had their most important flaws. The studio currently works at this level of detail which makes sure every part of the world functions logically for players who want to explore everything from equipment weight to city design.
