The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Songs of the Past Expansion Announced for 2027 Launch Alongside Fools Theory Studio Veterans and New Platforms
CD Projekt Red will release a third major expansion to the popular RPG The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Songs of the Past is expected to arrive in 2027 and will be developed alongside Fools Theory; an independent game development studio comprised of veterans who contributed to the original game. The surprise announcement indicates a surprising return to the critically acclaimed title, years after its original development cycle came to a close.
The upcoming expansion is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. The announcement is quite shocking, given the game's immense commercial and critical success. The Witcher 3 has since reached over 60,000,000 sales worldwide since its initial release in 2015 and has earned over 250 Game of the Year awards, as well as well over 1000 industry awards.
In Songs of the Past, players will again step into the boots of monster slayer Geralt of Rivia as they undertake another story driven campaign through its dark fantasy world. Developers have revealed more information regarding the plot and mechanics of the content to be released in late summer 2026. It is the first major content addition to the original journey that chronicled Geralt searching for his daughter Ciri in over a decade.
