Thunderobot AI Mini Workstation Launches In China Featuring Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo APU And 96GB VRAM Allocation For AI Tasks
Thunderobot has officially launched its AI Mini Workstation in China. This compact workstation can be purchased for CN¥26,999 which comes with 128GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 2TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. The workstation may resemble a Steam Machine in appearance but it is equipped with the appropriate hardware for intensive computing tasks and significant AI capabilities.
The workstation's top tier is dominated by the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395, which is a part of the Strix Halo family, coupled with an RDNA 3.5 iGPU called the Radeon 8060S. Benchmarks suggest that this iGPU should be on par with a laptop version of an Nvidia RTX 4070. In the workstation the most notable feature for AI users is the allocation of as much as 96GB of the system RAM for the iGPU's VRAM capacity, which makes this workstation suitable for larger language models that normally require much more expensive enterprise hardware.
The custom liquid cooling system that is included in the workstation makes sure that temperatures are within safe limits with its full coverage cold plate on the Ryzen APU and secondary core components. The 14 phase power delivery allows for sustained 176W of power with its cubic 199 x 199 x 199 millimeter chassis.
The cubic frame features multiple connectivity options. It has 2x USB4 ports, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 1x HDMI 2.1 on both front and back of the chassis. It is equipped with 3x USB A 2.0, 2x USB A 3.2, 1x USB C 3.2, both 10G and 2.5G ethernet ports to keep high bandwidth server operations in mind, as well as WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and two 3.5mm audio jacks.
It's highly likely that there won't be a wider international release of this AI Mini Workstation due to the steep price and limited number of international vendors selling Thunderobot products; but nevertheless, for the Chinese market it's certainly aimed towards users that will be benefiting from that 96GB VRAM feature without wanting a bigger machine.
