Capcom Restructures Dragons Dogma 2 Monetization by Removing Digital Extras and Decreasing Base Game Price While Teasing a Potential Dark Arisen Expansion

Capcom is undertaking significant restructuring to its Dragons Dogma 2 monetization system. They have removed the games Deluxe Edition and almost all of its paid microtransactions from digital marketplaces. According to an official graphic published by Capcom on its social media channels, the base game will also receive a permanent price decrease on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, to be timed with a removal of numerous add on content packs previously criticized by players.

A variety of consumable items in Dragons Dogma 2 that could be purchased will be gone from stores with this digital cleanup. This includes the Boon for Adventurers New Journey Pack and the Deluxe Edition itself. Several individual paid items set to be removed permanently are the Makeshift Gaol Key, Ambivalent Rift Incense for swapping pawn inclinations, Heartfelt Pendant, and Harpysnare Smoke Beacons. Other removed content from the store will be Art of Metamorphosis (a character customization item), Wakestones, Portcrystals, and 500, 1500, and 2500 Rift Crystals. Any players who have already purchased them can continue to use them in game.

After this midyear storefront cleanout, only 3 supplemental items will be available on digital storefronts along with the discounted base game. Players will continue to be able to buy the Explorers Camping Kit, Dragons Dogma 2 (standard), and the Dragons Dogma Music and Sound Collection. This major shift in their digital storefront plan will make it much simpler.

Although the monetization system overhaul is significant, the final line of Capcoms statement holds the real news: The graphic concludes by thanking fans for their continued support and asking them to support Dragons Dogma 2 Dark Arisen with similar enthusiasm and love. The mention of the Dark Arisen subtitle associated with the sequel is a first in the series and strongly suggests that a substantial expansion or re release of Dragons Dogma 2 called Dark Arisen is currently in development.
