Epic Games Launcher rebuild brings community profiles hardware diagnostic tools and native controller support to the PC storefront overhaul

Epic Games announced they’re undergoing a complete rebuild of their PC digital storefront launcher. It’s going to be pretty sweet. It was compile and discussed by users of r EpicGamesPC in an interesting post from ImAnthlon where 5 pages of interface previews were teased. What we’re expecting with the upcoming launcher overhaul revolves around community features, hardware diagnostics, and better input functionality.

Epic is hoping to make the launcher a little more socially aware and functional for PC players by introducing custom user profiles, as well as interactive avatars and even real time live game status updates for friends in the upcoming social panel. There’s also a brand new in store benchmarking suite that’s expected to assist users by demonstrating how their system might perform when running a particular game by referencing their system’s hardware to the Official requirements. This new feature aims to make a player with mid range hardware feel confident in knowing what the highest settings they’d likely be able to utilize when purchasing or downloading their games.

Epic is moving towards written reviews for all of their PC digital titles. The screenshot provided from a work in progress from one of their in house shooters, titled Arc Raiders, will reportedly show Epic Games’ own progress tracking and display written community reviews that players have been asking for over a period of time, as well as allow access to publishers and developer comments on reviews. Support for various native controller configurations is also planned to be implemented within the rebuilt launcher for both Xbox and PlayStation devices, as well as 3rd party patch notes and 3rd party community hubs will also make the leap to the improved Launcher.

There are a series of Commerce updates to look forward to, as well, such as the implementation of Global Gifting, which will allow users to purchase games for friends regardless of their location. Additionally, publishers will be able to directly grant users “publisher funded coupons”. A public beta for this overhaul will be made known soon, as the company announced via their official Discord channel.
