Honor Magic series flagship devices receive seven year software support policy in the European Union to extend hardware lifecycle and reduce e waste
Honor has deepened its software promises on its higher end Magic series smartphone lineup within the European Union market. The OEM confirmed that a handful of its flagship devices would support OS and security updates for a total of 7 years from the launch date. This is a significantly longer cycle than ever before, and addresses user complaints of having to replace high end devices much sooner than they otherwise should.
The Magic 7 Pro is expected to be the first to receive the 7 year support cycle. It also confirmed that foldable hardware would be updated throughout the extended lifecycle. Prior to today's policy update Honor supported its devices for a total of 5 6 years; with the new policy European customers will be able to use the devices for 7 years without worries.
By providing a 7 year OS and security support cycle, Honor will bring its post sale support more in line with Google's and Samsung's relatively recent policy. With hardware now being supported much more reliably over time, Honor is looking to build customer trust while reducing the e waste produced from early device replacement within the high end smartphone market.
