LG Display Showcases New Gaming OLED Panel Lineup and Technical Roadmap

LG Display Gaming Monitor Roadshow in Taipei Promotes New OLED Panels and High Performance Display Technologies to Global Manufacturers

A key industry roadshow by LG Display in Taipei to promote the latest gaming monitor hardware, is aimed at the rapid expansion of the premier display market, where the company looks to expand its share by exhibiting a roadmap of the latest gaming display engineering technologies to about 20 global monitor manufacturers.

With panel sizes ranging from the 20 inch class to the 40 inch class for each consumer application. An exhibitory of the 39 inch OLED monitor panel is being shown at this event to represent the highest produced panel of this size for an ultra high definition 5K2K display with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a steep 1500R curvature. It is meant for optimal immersive visual effects for racing or flight simulation programs when a racing/flight cockpit can extend its peripheral vision to the maximum.

In addition to the new large form factors for games, RGB Stripe OLED technology is being shown; it stacks red, green, and blue subpixels in a uniform linear arrangement so there is no gap between the pixels. The pixels, thus have less color fringing for more legible text on screen, and enable a faster 240Hz refresh rate and will be suitable for gamers or any use case requiring sharp, legible text without ghosting.

These advanced displays achieve a peak brightness level of 2000 nits; panels have attained the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 standard for true black levels and brilliant vivid colors. A 27 inch 5K OLED display has a pixel density of 220 PPI for professional video editors and graphic designers requiring print quality images on screen with minimum distortions.

Further demonstrations at the event will highlight Black Frame Insertion technology, for less motion blur at fast refresh rates without demanding costly graphics hardware, and the new Dynamic Frequency and Resolution 2.0; this enables the monitor to dynamically switch between its highest refresh rate and highest resolution modes depending on the application.

LG Display made an entry into the gaming monitor space two years ago after leveraging over 10 years of research into Tandem WOLED technology. They are now supplying to about 10 major global monitor brands and one factor helping them expand this rapidly is the 0.3% surface reflection that significantly cuts down screen glare in well lit rooms, as a part of the surface treatment proprietary to LG Display.

LG Display is using this event to draw comparisons between its OLED panels and LCD panels; it claims that even its lowest refresh rate OLED panels can render images better than any fast LCD panel by significantly reducing motion blur and ghosting on screen. Head of Large Display Business Unit Hyeonwoo Lee said that the company plans to use its vast manufacturing capabilities for both OLED panels and to expand partnership with global display manufacturers and thus increase its presence in the premier display market segment.
