A new premium gaming laptop has arrived on the international market. The ASUS ROG Strix G18 pairs a high end mini LED screen with a top tier Intel processor and NVIDIA graphics card. But securing the flagship configuration will cost buyers a serious premium.
ASUS built this machine for extreme performance. Under the hood sits the Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor. Buyers can configure the system with up to 64GB of RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card. Storage expansion is handled by 2 M.2 slots for solid state drives.
Keeping these hot components cool requires heavy engineering. The internal cooling design uses 3 fans, a vapor chamber, and a radiator that spans the entire width of the frame. For those on a tighter budget, the company provides alternative configurations. These models use mid range graphics cards spanning from the RTX 5060 up to the RTX 5070 Ti.
The screen is the main attraction of this notebook. It features an 18 inch panel with a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels and a 240Hz refresh rate. By using mini LED technology with more than 2000 dimming zones, the display reaches a peak brightness of 1200 nits. Color reproduction is rated at 100% of the Display P3 gamut. If you prefer speed over contrast, ASUS also offers a cheaper IPS panel option that runs at a faster 300Hz.
According to the official retail listings, pricing varies wildly by region. In the UK, the flagship model equipped with the RTX 5080 sells for $4973. Currently, US buyers can only access an intermediate version. That package comes with the RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and the IPS display for $3299.
