BYD has officially previewed the Qin Max, a new electric vehicle boasting rapid charging capabilities. Equipped with the new Blade Battery 2.0, the flagship sedan can reportedly charge up to 97% capacity in just 9 minutes. However, the Chinese automaker has not yet revealed the official pricing structure for the vehicle.
Spy shots from roads in China reveal a modern design language aimed at a younger demographic. In terms of physical footprint, the vehicle is larger than the existing Qin L and measures 4866 by 1880 by 1495 millimeters. This sizing places the sedan in direct competition with the Tesla Model 3.
The standout feature of this release is the proprietary Flash Charging technology. It is incredibly fast. Drivers can expect to reach 70% battery capacity in 5 minutes, while a charge from 10% to 97% takes 9 minutes. Buyers can select from battery capacities of 52.9 kilowatt hours or 64.3 kilowatt hours. These configurations deliver an estimated CLTC driving range of 530 kilometers and 630 kilometers respectively.
Power options include electric motors producing either 160 horsepower or 321 horsepower. Standard features will include the God's Eye B driver assistance system to improve safety on the road. Along with the pure electric model, the brand is widely expected to offer a plug in hybrid variant to broaden market appeal.
