Intel Raises Recommended Retail Prices On Selected Core Ultra 7 Desktop CPUs And High End Xeon Enterprise Silicon
Intel has officially raised recommended retail prices (RRP) on several of its desktop and enterprise CPUs. An Intel spokesman stated that the price hike is in response to current market conditions which had driven up the costs across the supply chain and had seen massive demand for specific families of silicon.
Such a move is uncommon in the hardware world where prices usually fall each year, and highlights the enormous pressure AI workloads have had on global semiconductor resources.
The consumer price hikes are very sparse indeed, and only affect two models of the desktop range. Only the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus and the Core Ultra 7 250K Plus have had recommended prices increased by between $30 and $50, equating to about 15% to 16% more than last year's suggested retail prices.
Perhaps most astonishing is that the non Plus editions in the Core Ultra 200 range have not been affected, with the mainstream Core Ultra 9 285K still retailing at the $599 mark and the economical Core Ultra 5 225 still selling below its launch point, meaning it has not been adjusted in the slightest. This suggests that only segments which are heavily oversold are affected by the cost adjustments.
The enterprise segment saw far more significant modifications. Certain high, end Xeon 6 Granite Rapids CPUs have doubled their recent retail price with respect to mid 2025. Meanwhile early 2024 hardware, in this case the Emerald Rapids 8000 range, exceeded the $1,300 mark above its initial launch MSRP.
Top tier and top performance is in line for the largest correction, with the flagship 128 core Xeon 6980P rising by a sizeable 12% from $12,460 to $13,955, and raising each CPU's price by $1,495. Publications argue that the relatively measured nature of the price hikes come as there's ready and willing buyers prepared to accept large markups for enterprise silicon with high compute, allowing Intel to work to raise prices in the face of rising manufacturing costs.
