Lamborghini has pushed back the launch of its first fully electric car to the start of the next decade. The Lanzador, which was originally revealed as a battery electric concept, will now arrive as a plug in hybrid with a twin turbo V8 engine. The decision comes after the company cited a distinct lack of customer interest in quiet performance cars.
When the company first showed the Lanzador concept in 2023, it was supposed to represent the electric future of the brand. Now, plans have changed. The production model will arrive before the decade ends, carrying a 4.0 liter twin turbo V8 hybrid setup borrowed from the Urus. Stefano Cossalter, the product director for the Urus and Lanzador programs, explained that customers are simply not asking for electric supercars.
Cossalter noted that while modern electric vehicles deliver impressive horsepower and immediate torque, they fail to provide the emotional connection that defines the brand. The sound and theater of an internal combustion engine remain vital for buyers. Consequently, the company has also ruled out an electric version of the Urus SUV. The engineering team will continue researching battery technology and software, but a pure electric model is on hold until the market demands it.
