RedMagic has introduced its Astra 2 gaming tablet to the global market. The compact device pairs a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with a liquid cooling system and a fast 185 Hz OLED display. It is set to launch globally next month starting at 699 dollars.
The screen spans 9.06 inches with a sharp resolution of 2400х1504 pixels and a peak brightness of 1600 nits. Under the hood, the main processor works alongside a secondary RedCore R4 gaming chip to optimize performance. Memory configurations peak at 16 GB of LPDDR5T RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage. These components are kept cool by a closed liquid system called the AquaCore Cooling System 2.0. This setup uses piezoelectric micropumps to move liquid through tiny channels, preventing thermal throttling during intense play sessions.
Design choices show a clear focus on comfortable play. The tablet includes 2 separate USB Type C ports. 1 port sits on the short edge of the frame to handle fast charging at 75W. The other resides on the longer side, allowing you to charge the device or plug in wired headphones while holding the tablet horizontally. Power can also bypass the battery entirely to run the system directly from the wall. This trick helps keep temperatures down and extends the overall life of the 8300 mAh battery.
According to the official announcement, the device runs Android 16 with the RedMagic OS 11.5 skin. A programmable Magic Key button on the frame lets users trigger gaming functions instantly. Other details include stereo speakers with DTS X Ultra audio, a 13 megapixel main camera, and an 8 megapixel front camera. Pre sales on the official website are scheduled to open next month, with the base model priced at 699 dollars. That makes the global variant slightly cheaper than the local Chinese release, which originally started around 739 dollars.
