Along side with fold 8 Ultra, Samsung has revealed the Galaxy Z Fold8, shifting the lineup toward a shorter and wider passport style shape. The new design improves outer screen typing with a 5.5 inch display while dropping the total weight to 201 grams. Pre orders are live now starting at $1899 with units scheduled to ship early next month.
The screen dimensions change the way the foldable feels in your hand. On the outside, the 5.5 inch panel uses a wider 10 to 16 aspect ratio so it functions like a standard phone when closed. Unfolding the device reveals a 7.6 inch main screen with a 4 to 3 aspect ratio that works well for games and running 2 apps side by side. Turning the open screen sideways switches the view to a 3 to 4 layout optimized for reading web pages and digital books.
Engineers managed to trim the chassis down to 9.7 millimeters when folded, making this the thinnest and lightest book style foldable in the family. Despite the thinner profile, the battery capacity actually grew to 4800mAh, up from the 4400mAh limit on the previous generation. This battery pairs with super fast charging tech to top up the cell quickly.
Powering the device is the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor tuned specifically for Galaxy hardware. On the photography side, you get a dual camera system on the back with a 50 megapixel main sensor and a 50 megapixel ultra wide lens. The setup handles 8K video capture at 30 frames per second and supports up to 10x digital zoom.
Buyers can choose between Lavender, Graphite, Cream, and Pistachio colorways. While the premium Fold8 Ultra targets power users with a massive screen and a 200 megapixel camera, this standard model focuses on daily comfort and pocket friendly portability. The starting price of $1899 positions it as a major investment, but the physical redesign makes it a much more practical choice for everyday tasks.
