Volkswagen has unveiled the ID Cross, a compact electric crossover designed as an affordable alternative to the popular T Cross. The new model pairs a space saving MEB plus platform with battery options that target city drivers and budget buyers. But customers will have to wait until autumn later this year for the first deliveries to begin.
The vehicle runs on the MEB plus architecture and comes in 2 battery sizes. According to the official announcement by Volkswagen, buyers can choose between a 37 kilowatt hour battery and a 52 kilowatt hour battery. The maximum range reaches 427 kilometers on a single charge.
The entry level trim called Trend features an 85 kilowatt motor outputting 114 horsepower. Stepping up to the Life tier gets you 99 kilowatts and 132 horsepower. The top tier Style trim tops out at 155 kilowatts and 207 horsepower.
Charging is designed to be quick. The smaller battery accepts up to 90 kilowatts of power, pushing the charge from 10% to 80% in 23 minutes. The larger battery supports up to 105 kilowatts, reaching the same 80% mark in 24 minutes. Physically, the crossover measures 4161 millimeters long, 1794 millimeters wide, and 1588 millimeters tall. The wheelbase spans 2601 millimeters. For utility, the car can tow up to 1200 kilograms.
Inside the cabin, drivers get a 10.25 inch digital gauge cluster and a large 12.9 inch infotainment screen. Volkswagen loaded the car with smart helper features. The list includes a travel assistant with traffic light recognition, a 425 watt Harman Kardon sound system, and seats with built in massage functions. Pricing starts at 27,995 euros, and the base model is scheduled to hit the market in October later this year.
