Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 Edition Details Confirmed

Nintendo has released an overview trailer detailing the upcoming Switch 2 upgrade for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. This new version targets 4K resolution at 60 FPS in television mode alongside a major jump in portable performance. However, players will need to pay for the upgrade or wait for the physical copy arriving later this autumn.

According to the official preview shared on Nintendo Life and Nintendo World Report, the digital update lands next week to prepare the game for the next generation hardware. The console upgrade brings visual enhancements that run at 1080p in handheld play while keeping the action locked at 60 FPS. Cutscenes also receive a thorough cleanup to look sharper and run smoother on the new screen.

The update introduces a new combat scenario called Merc Assault where players can directly command the Blades in battle. You can select up to 6 of these magical entities and swap between them freely to charge up special moves. It shakes up the gameplay entirely. This mode sits alongside fresh cosmetic outfits for Pyra and Mythra that will show up during both standard exploration and narrative cutscenes.

For long time fans, the biggest addition is Momo, a new rare Blade imported from the Xenosaga trilogy. It is a massive nostalgia trip. This 14 year old Realian can toggle between light and dark modes in combat to change both her appearance and her elemental affinity. Her weapon is a specialized flail featuring the face of the series mascot Bunnie. She joins Kos Mos and T elos as another legacy crossover character developed by Monolith Soft in partnership with Bandai Namco.
