AMD continues to dominate the German DIY desktop market with the latest retail data showing massive platform superiority. Figures compiled by hardware sales tracker TechEpiphany show a market where socket AM5 has become the undisputed default choice for PC builders. Intel managed to secure just 11% of total motherboard unit sales, highlighting a steep uphill climb for the brand.
Intel is in trouble. Their latest socket 1851 platform only managed to move 130 units during the month. That is actually fewer sales than AMD older socket AM4 hardware, which managed 145 sales. Overall, AMD moved 1,920 motherboards during this period, compared to a mere 240 units for Intel. Out of 2,160 total mainboards sold, AMD controlled almost the entire volume.
Revenue metrics paint an even worse picture for the blue team. AMD generated €403,768 in sales, which represents 92% of the total cash spent on motherboards in this report. Intel brought in just €35,077. Buyers are also willing to pay a premium for AMD hardware. The average selling price for AMD motherboards reached €210, while Intel buyers only spent an average of €146.
The mid range B850 chipset has quickly become the favorite option for PC builders. B850 alone made up 56% of all AMD sales, accounting for 1,075 units. High end chipsets like X870E and X870 lagged far behind, claiming 14% and 6% of the volume. Older budget boards like the B550 still managed to capture 7% of buyers, proving that budget builders are still holding onto older platforms.
MSI took the crown as the most popular motherboard manufacturer in Germany. They commanded over 52% of the total market by selling 1,130 boards. ASRock and Gigabyte took second and third place, leaving Asus in fourth with a small 8% share. Most buyers demanded wireless features, with built in Wi Fi motherboards making up 85% of all purchases. DDR5 memory has also cemented its place as the standard, appearing in 90% of the systems sold.
The absolute best selling motherboard was the MSI MAG Tomahawk WIFI B850, which shifted 160 units. MSI also claimed the second and third positions with their Gaming Plus Wi Fi models. Intel platforms simply could not keep up with these numbers, indicating that AMD has successfully locked down the desktop gaming space.
