A retro style gaming laptop has arrived globally. the Chuwi GTBook X features a Raptor Lake Refresh Intel Core 7 230H processor paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 graphics card. But the steep price tag of 999 dollars might raise eyebrows given the older internal components.
The silicon configuration inside this machine feels like a blast from the past. The Core 7 230H CPU runs on 10 cores and 16 threads, reaching a maximum boost clock speed of 5.2GHz. It is backed by 24MB of smart cache. For gaming, Chuwi opted for the older Nvidia RTX 3050 mobile GPU with 4GB of GDDR6 video memory. The graphics card operates at 80W but can reach up to 95W using Nvidia power boost technology.
Thermal management is handled by a cooling system with 2 fans and 5 heat pipes. Chuwi claims the hardware can maintain a combined power consumption limit of 140W during heavy dual load testing. The display is a standard 15.6 inch IPS panel outputting a 1920x1080 resolution. It supports a 144Hz refresh rate, which is standard for entry level gaming setups.
Inside the chassis, you will find 2 SO DIMM memory slots preloaded with 16GB of DDR5 RAM. There are also 2 M.2 2280 slots for storage, shipped with a 512GB solid state drive right out of the box. For physical connectivity, you get a decent port selection including HDMI 2.1, MiniDP, USB C, USB A, and a gigabit ethernet port. Wireless connectivity is handled by Wi Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. The laptop comes with Windows 11 Pro installed as the default operating system.
