Corsair has released its updated RMe series power supplies featuring Cybenetics Platinum efficiency and a specialized safety cable. The new RM850e and RM1000e units include a thermal sensor inside the GPU power connector to cut system power before cables melt. Both fully modular units are available now starting at $139.99 with a 7 year warranty.
Melting power connectors on modern graphics cards have been a major worry for PC builders. Corsair is tackling this directly with its new ThermalProtect 12V 2x6 cable. A miniature heat sensor is embedded directly into the cable comb roughly 30 mm away from the graphics card socket. If the connector temperature hits 65 °C, the sensor immediately alerts the power supply through the Sense pins. The unit instantly shuts down the entire system to prevent fire hazards and hardware damage.
Under the hood, both the RM850e and RM1000e meet the latest ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 industry standards. Corsair also upgraded the efficiency tier to Cybenetics Platinum, which means less wasted electricity and lower heat output under heavy gaming loads. Cooling is handled by an internal fan with a custom speed curve. When power demands drop to low or moderate levels, the ZERO RPM mode stops the fan completely for silent operation.
Despite the internal upgrades, Corsair kept the physical casing compact at just 140 mm in length. This shorter depth gives builders plenty of room to tuck excess cables into tight cases. The company backs both models with a 7 year warranty. In terms of retail cost, the RM850e is priced at $139.99 while the higher capacity RM1000e retails for $179.99.
