Epomaker Launches the GX1 Open Back Gaming Headset

A new open back gaming headset has arrived from Epomaker. Offering virtual 7.1 surround sound, the Epomaker GX1 features 50mm drivers, a detachable microphone, and 3 wireless or wired connectivity choices. However, the open acoustic design means audio will leak freely into your room.

The acoustic architecture is the defining hardware choice here. Unlike standard closed headphones, the open back ear cups allow air and sound waves to pass freely through the rear grilles. This approach creates a much wider and more natural soundstage, which helps with tracking directional audio cues during matches. On the flip side, you get zero passive noise isolation. Ambient room noise will easily get in, and your game audio will leak out. The internal hardware relies on 50mm drivers with a total harmonic distortion rating under 3%.

The headset weighs 320 grams. That is fairly light for a wireless model. It features a headband that adjusts across 7 distinct positions, paired with breathable leather ear pads. The exterior sports an electroplated finish and integrates customizable RGB lighting. For team chat, the detachable boom microphone uses environmental noise cancellation to block keyboard clatter and fan noise.

Gamers can connect the headset in 3 different ways. It supports low latency 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth, or wired USB C connections. If you play on Xbox, you are limited to the wired USB C port. PlayStation and Nintendo Switch support the wireless options. A 2000mAh battery keeps the hardware running. You get up to 70 hours of use if you turn the RGB lighting off. Turning the lights on drops that runtime to 30 hours. Recharging the battery to full takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes.

The unit is available in Black Grey, Pink, and White. It currently sells at a launch price of $44.99 before returning to its standard $49.99 retail price. Other brands are also releasing budget options.
