HUAWEI has launched the nova 16 SE, reviving the affordable mid range line after skipping several hardware generations. The smartphone packs an enormous 8500 mAh battery and an ultra bright OLED screen into a body measuring under 8 millimeters thick. According to the official launch details in China, sales have already started with prices beginning at roughly 360 US dollars.
The front of the phone is dominated by a 6.84 inch OLED display. This screen supports a 120 Hz refresh rate with a resolution of 2756x1272 pixels. A local peak brightness of 8000 nits makes the panel highly readable even under direct sunlight. To protect your eyes during late night use, the system runs a high frequency 1440 Hz PWM dimming system. This reduces flicker dramatically.
A Kirin 8020 processor coordinates all the processing tasks behind the scenes. The phone runs the newly updated HarmonyOS 6.1 operating system right out of the box. The massive 8500 mAh battery is the real star here. Most thin phones sacrifice battery capacity, but this model manages to keep a slim 7.98 millimeter profile while offering 28 hours of non stop video playback. When the charge finally drops, the 66W fast charging adapter gets you back up and running quickly.
The main camera uses a 50 megapixel RYYB sensor measuring 1/1.56 inches. It comes with optical image stabilization to prevent blurry shots. A secondary Red Maple sensor helps the system process color tones with far greater accuracy. Up front, you get a 32 megapixel camera for selfies. The phone also packs stereo speakers, an infrared port, a side mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, Wi Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0.
Despite its light weight of 229 grams, the device is built like a tank. It holds certifications for IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance, which is virtually unheard of at this price point. Buyers in China can purchase the 128GB model for 2499 yuan. The 256GB storage option costs 2699 yuan, while the top tier 512GB configuration goes for 3199 yuan.
