IREN Hands Over Horizon 1 to Microsoft and Gains NVIDIA Cloud Validation

IREN has officially handed over its Horizon 1 facility to Microsoft as part of a multi billion dollar computing agreement. The installation runs on NVIDIA GB300 NVL72 hardware and earned NVIDIA Exemplar Cloud recognition for its performance standards. This delivery marks the first of 4 planned installations scheduled for the Texas campus.

The project is part of a 5 year cloud services deal valued at $9.7bn signed with Microsoft. Located in Childress, Texas, the Horizon 1 facility supplies 50MW of direct to chip liquid cooled compute capacity. IREN manages the entire process in house, handling everything from architectural design to electrical engineering and physical construction. That internal control helped speed up delivery to meet Microsoft infrastructure deadlines.

NVIDIA awarded the company Exemplar Cloud status after putting the GB300 NVL72 hardware through extensive system testing. The benchmark evaluates whether cloud providers can handle intense AI workloads without hardware bottlenecks. IREN plans to scale its total footprint quickly, targeting 480MW of capacity before pushing toward 1.2GW across all facilities.

Daniel Roberts, Co Founder and Co CEO of IREN, credited the fast rollout to the company operational model and site personnel. He highlighted the milestone in a statement following the handover.

Delivering Horizon 1 demonstrates the strength of our vertically integrated model and our ability to execute complex AI infrastructure projects at speed and scale.

He noted that over 3,000 workers contributed to the buildout and confirmed that Horizons 2, 3, and 4 remain on track for completion later this year.
