Michael Robbins Appointed President and CEO of Semiconductor Industry Association

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has selected Michael Robbins as its next president and chief executive officer. He takes over leadership of the group after nearly 12 years under outgoing leader John Neuffer. The appointment places an experienced policy strategist at the head of the trade group as microchip manufacturing remains central to global trade and technological security.

The decision comes with strong backing from industry leadership. Dr. Lisa Su, who serves as the 2026 board chair for the association alongside her duties as chair and chief executive officer of AMD, pointed to the essential role of microchips in modern economic competition.

Michael Robbins joins SIA at an important moment for our industry, as semiconductors have never been more essential to the global economy, technology leadership, and national competitiveness. Michael brings the vision and experience needed to advance policies that strengthen the U.S. semiconductor ecosystem, accelerate innovation, and support continued industry growth.

Robbins outlined his goal to work with policymakers on domestic technology priorities as chip supply chains continue to expand.

It is a privilege to join SIA and represent an industry that is foundational to America’s economic strength and technology leadership. Semiconductors power essential sectors of the economy, from AI and advanced manufacturing to healthcare, communications, and national security. I look forward to working alongside leaders in industry and government to advance policies that will sharpen America’s competitive edge in chip technology for many years to come.

Robbins brings extensive experience across government relations, aerospace, and defense. He currently serves as president and chief executive officer of the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International, an advocacy organization representing commercial and defense robotics. He originally joined that organization in 2020 as chief advocacy officer. He also serves as an active officer in the United States Navy Reserve.

His earlier work includes establishing the business consulting firm Intrepid and leading public affairs for the Air Line Pilot Association. On Capitol Hill, Robbins spent 10 years serving as chief of staff to the late Representative John Dingell of Michigan. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and earned a master degree from Georgetown University.

Outgoing president John Neuffer announced his planned departure earlier this year following more than a decade at the helm. Neuffer will remain with the organization through the coming weeks to oversee the transition of responsibilities. Robbins will officially take over all executive duties as the final quarter of the year begins.
