QNAP TS h966TX Hybrid NAS Launches with Thunderbolt 4 and 10GbE

QNAP has launched the TS h966TX, a 9 bay hybrid desktop storage system built for high speed video editing workflows. The unit combines 5 standard SATA drive bays with 4 fast U.2 slots, dual Thunderbolt 4 connections, and a 10GbE network port. It is currently available with a starting price of 60000 New Taiwan Dollars about 1883.81 USD.

Under the hood, the system runs on a 6 core 12th Gen Intel Core i3 processor to handle heavy data transfers. Memory expansion is handled through 2 DDR5 SO DIMM slots, with 8GB of memory preinstalled out of the box. To keep internal temperatures stable under load, QNAP packed in a 140mm internal cooling fan alongside a 150W power supply unit.

Software is driven by the QuTS hero operating system, which relies on the ZFS file system to guarantee data integrity. This platform brings enterprise level safeguards including WORM write protection, automated data self healing, and dedicated optimization tools for flash storage pools.

The hybrid drive setup provides a practical mix of raw capacity and solid state speed. Users get 5 bays for 3.5 inch SATA hard drives for bulk media storage, paired with 4 slots for 2.5 inch U.2 drives. These 4 flash bays can also accept M.2 drives using simple adapter brackets, making fast caching accessible for multimedia teams.

Port selection focuses on direct connections for creative setups. The back panel features 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports, 1 10GbE network jack, and 1 2.5GbE port for fast local access. Peripheral connections include 2 USB A 10Gbps ports, 1 USB A 480Mbps port, and an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port for direct 4K video output to an external monitor.
